Thosaigh mé mo staidéir Gaeilge nuair a bhí 21 bliain d'aois a'm, i mo chónaí i Moncton, NB, an cósta thoir, Ceanada. Ó shin a bhí mé sna déaga déanacha, bhíonn mé a'foghlaim teangacha éagsúla agus chuir mé deireadh a'glacadh le Gaeilge i a mhacallaí le mo thaithí. I mo chuid staidéir tosaigh den teanga, bhí nós a'm mo ceamara a thabhair liom, ag ullmhú meascán traiceanna ceoil agus teanga, agus a bheith a'spaisteoireacht chun ceantair éagsúla na cathrach, spreagtha ag na séasúir agus an tír. Mar a chuaigh am, ba cosúil mar a athshonadh an Gaeilge le cuimhne a'm agus bhanna an teanga le mo thaithí. D'atosaigh mé mo staidéir tar eis críochnú na scoile, a'foghlaim na Gaeilge.

A'fás aníos i gcósta thoir, imeartha tionchar orm an teanga trí ceol, vo sonradh, an Rankin Family, nó Rankins, cé vo gcan ceol i nGaeilge nah Alban. Ní raibh lá rúin a'm an teanga a labhairt le duine eile nuair a thabhair mé ar a fhoghlaim. Bhíonn sé an teanga leis a scríobh nótaí mé agus teanga ina shíl mé liom féin, a dhealú ón smaointe taobh istigh avus amuigh. Mar sin, tharla cúpla athruithe leis an teanga, a bhfuil mé a leithscéal a ghabháil ó chroí do dhuine ar bith vo gcuirfeadh sé fearg ar ar bith ar. Siúd is go, i an cosán ar an traidisiún béil, agus trí nah éifeachtaí an diaspóra, agus an Mheiriceá ar theangacha nah Eorpa, go raibh maith agat dóibh siúd atá tuiscint den análaithe nuadh an teanga seo ag fáil bháis.

I will try my best to write in consideration of perfect grammar and knowledge of various expressions. As a language learner, I enjoy the mechanics of language and sometimes feel that I need to go off the trail a bit to express my ideas. In any of those cases, I will indicate anything that I find to be not standard from my own variations.

I began my Gaelic studies at the age of 21, living in Moncton, NB, the east-coast marritimes of Canada. Since my mid-teens, I had been learning various languages and ended up adopting Gaelic in its resonance with my experiences. In my initial studies of the language, I had the habit of taking a camera, preparing a mix of language and music tracks, and wandering into different parts of the city, for inspiration from the seasons and the land. As time progressed, Gaelic seemed to resonate with nostalgia and the language bonded with my experiences. I studied the language for about a year and then on and off for two years following. I re-started my studies following completion of school, learning Irish Gaelic.   

Growing up in the marritimes, I had been influenced by the language through music, specifically the Rankin Family / Rankins (Scots Gaeilc). I had no intention of speaking the language with anyone when I embarked on learning it. It was the language that I wrote notes in and a language I thought in to differentiate inner and outter thoughts. As such, I've developped a few mutations in the language, which I sincerely appologize to anyone whom this upsets in any way. Although, in the path of the oral tradition and through the effects of the disporea / effects of the Americas on European languages, I thank those who are understanding of the new breath spoken with this dying language.
